Our Teen Time at the YMCA Guidelines

The Waldo County YMCA would like to welcome all middle school students entering school this fall. We want you to know that we offer options that allow ALL middle school students to come to the YMCA after each school day. If you are already an individual youth annual member or an annual family member you are all set and no action is required on your part. If you are not a current member, we have the paperwork for TEEN ACCESS available at the Front Desk at the YMCA facility.

Teen ACCESS memberships……

  • Are available to all middle and high school students.
  • Are for after school Monday-Friday until 5:30 p.m. during the school year.
  • Allow access to the teen room, hallway and gymnasium.
  • ACCESS teens are not permitted in Fitness/Wellness rooms.
  • ACCESS teens are not permitted on the Walk Track.
  • ACCESS teens are not permitted upstairs for any reason.

There is no charge for a TEEN ACCESS Membership.

Programs are offered every day after school to provide a safe, healthy environment for young people. Youth Members and Teen ACCESS Members can participate in a variety of programs Monday - Friday from 2:20 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the school year. Programs include: gym and outdoor activities, cooking , arts and crafts, board & card games, Youth Advocacy Program (YAP), Friday movies, bumper pool and socializing in the teen room, etc.  Special outings are also offered, including hiking, camping, Camden Snowbowl and Sugarloaf, trips to the mall, and more. Keep your eyes open for flyers posted in the teen room and at our Member Information Station. Please sign up by the posted deadline to ensure that trips are not cancelled due to lack of registration.
Healthy snacks are served FREE at 3:00 each day!!

Note: The TEEN ACCESS Membership was established to provide a safe, healthy environment for young people after school. This NO-COST program exists due in large part to financial support from the City of Belfast and towns throughout Waldo County. TEEN ACCESS has been ongoing since 2001.

    Youth Advocacy Program (YAP)

This group will be responsible for completing four projects throughout the school year that focus on physical activity, good nutrition and anti tobacco/alcohol.

There will be several trips throughout the year such as the peer leadership conference in Bar Harbor on November 17, 2007. This will be an overnight trip, including a visit to the State House to observe how political decisions are made and bills are passed. There will be an opportunity to meet some of our political leaders.

Over the past few years, this group has learned that their opinions matter and that they can make a positive change in their community and state. The YAP group is made possible through the Healthy Maine Partnership and the Waldo County General Hospital. A free snack is provided at each meeting.

Meetings will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the teen room at the Waldo County YMCA.
